Abram Aarvin represented Kerala at the 38th National Under-9 Open Chess Championship 2025, held in Gurugram, Haryana. He was selected for the national championship by the Kerala Sports Council and the Kerala State Chess Technical Committee, based on his performance in the State Championship.
Abram scored 6 points out of 11 rounds, with 4 wins, 4 draws, and 3 losses, competing against several experienced and rated players from across the country. This was his first appearance at the national-level stage in a FIDE-rated classical tournament.
Based on his performance, Abram is now scheduled to receive his official FIDE rating, which is expected to be a high debut rating by national standards a strong start to his international chess journey.
Abram Aarvin has been selected to represent Kerala in the 38th National Under-9 Chess Championship, scheduled to be held in Gurugram, Haryana, from June 15 to 21, 2025. He secured third place in the Kerala State Selection Championships, which featured the top two players from 14 districts of the State. Tying with the runner-up on points, Abram was selected by the Technical Committee of the Sports Council, Government of Kerala, to be part of the state team for the upcoming national competition.
Abram Aarvin became the Ernakulam District Chess in Schools, Under-8 Runner-up by finishing with the same points (5.5/6) as the champion, narrowly missing first place on tiebreak, a remarkable feat that highlighted his strength and consistency. among the region’s best young players.
Abram Aarvin secured third place (second runner-up) in the prestigious Kerala State Under-9 Chess Championship, standing out among top talents across the state. His solid performance earned him a spot at the 38th National Under-9 Championship in Haryana, marking a major milestone in his young chess journey.
Abram Aarvin emerged as the Under-9 Champion at the World Chess Fiesta, a classical chess tournament organised by Premier Academy, USA. The two-day event, held in Kochi, featured a highly competitive Kids Open category for players under 15 (boys and girls).
In a stellar performance, Abram Aarvin emerged as the Under-10 Champion in the Open Below 1700 Chess Tournament, securing 4.5/7 points. Abram showcased his strength by defeating three senior FIDE-rated players, including a convincing victory over K.V. Alfred, a former Kerala State Champion and the first player from Kerala to cross the 2000 FIDE rating mark.
The SFI Student’s Olympics Under-18 Open Chess Tournament took place on May 29, 2025, at Changampuzha Park, Edapally, organized by SFI Edapally LC. The event featured six competitive rounds with participants from across age groups under 18.
Abram Aarvin emerged as the Under-10 Champion, scoring 4.5 points out of 6 rounds. Despite competing in an open category event, he outperformed several older players in his age group with consistent and mature play.
In the Under-18 category, Akash S secured first place, followed by Adithyan S in second place, and Saket S Shenoy in third.

Just days before his 9th birthday, Abram Aarvin clinched the Best Under-9 – First Prize at the John Mathew Memorial Mermaid Cup Kerala State Under-11 Open Chess Championship 2025, held on July 5–6.
Competing in a higher age category, Abram—still 8 years old during the event—delivered an outstanding performance against older and more experienced opponents, emerging as the top Under-9 player in this official Kerala State Championship.
The tournament featured 8 rounds of classical time control (40+5) and brought together some of the strongest young talents from across the state. Abram finished with a solid score of 4.5 out of 8, securing the Best U-9 Player title.
This achievement further cements Abram’s growing reputation as one of Kerala’s fastest-rising chess talents, with a steadily expanding list of accolades at both the state and national levels.
July 20, 2025 — On the occasion of International Chess Day, young chess prodigy Abram Aarvin secured the Under-9 Runner-Up title at the Kerala Rise 2025 Chess Tournament, held at Ernakulam.
Despite competing in the Under-15 category, Abram stood out among over 150 top players from the district, showcasing his strength, composure, and fighting spirit against older opponents.
Kerala Rise 2025 was a state-wide chess celebration organized by Chess Kerala in association with Premier Chess Academy, USA, conducted simultaneously across 14 districts. Held under the inspiring motto —
“One State, One Day, Infinite Moves” — the event brought together some of the brightest young chess talents from across Kerala.
Abram’s performance on this special day is a reflection of his rising promise and passion for the game.
On July 23, 2025, the Chessmii Inter School Chess Tournament was held in Kakkanad, Ernakulam, drawing talented young minds from across the region. Competing in the LP category (LKG–4), 8-year-old Abram Aarvin, one of Kerala’s most promising young players and the top seed in the event, finished with an impressive 6 out of 7 points, securing third place overall.
In a key match that proved decisive for the final standings, Abram lost to Sana Vijesh, also a Kerala state player like Abram and experienced tournament competitor who has performed well in national events before. Sana went on to win all her games and claimed first place with a perfect 7/7. Vaibhav Sumod took second place with 6.5 points, placing just ahead of Abram, who had to settle for the third spot.
Interestingly, Abram had defeated Sana multiple times in previous encounters, but this time, it was Sana who held the upper hand a reminder of how competitive and unpredictable chess can be, especially at the top level of youth tournaments.
Despite the single loss, Abram’s performance was solid and consistent, showcasing his tactical strength and growing maturity as a player. He was also awarded a ₹500 cash prize for his podium finish.
The Chessmii event served as a great test ahead of Abram’s upcoming national FIDE-rated tournaments. While the top podium finish may have narrowly slipped away this time, the experience and the rivalry will surely fuel his continued growth and hunger for excellence.
Abram commented on the match with a motto, One step back, two steps forward the board is always full of new possibilities.
